About Research Centre

Bangalore University granted St. Joseph’s College of Commerce (Autonomous), Bengaluru, recognition as a Research Centre in 2010. Since its inception, the Centre has been committed to fostering a vibrant culture of research through a wide range of academic and research initiatives conducted annually across the disciplines of Commerce, Management, and Social Sciences. From 2017 onwards, the institution has been affiliated with Dr. Manmohan Singh Bengaluru City University, formerly known as Bengaluru City University, as per the directions of the competent authorities.

The Research Centre, through its inclusive and structured research policies, supports researchers in identifying potential research areas and projects, assessing the feasibility and social relevance of research proposals, and facilitating quality research publications. The Centre encourages faculty members to effectively utilise the research resources and facilities available to them and motivates them to undertake minor and major research projects supported by funding agencies such as the University Grants Commission (UGC), Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), and other recognised funding agencies.

The Centre also publishes the SJCC Management Research Review (SJCC MRR), a bi-annual, peer-reviewed, open-access refereed journal, providing a platform for disseminating quality research in the areas of management, commerce, and related disciplines. In addition, the Research Centre organises research training programmes, workshops, seminars, conferences, and capacity-building initiatives for the teaching fraternity, research scholars, students, and the wider academic community.

An Expert Committee constituted by Dr. Manmohan Singh Bengaluru City University visited the SJCC Research Centre on 02 June 2026 to review its recognition and assess its research infrastructure, activities, academic contributions, and compliance with the prescribed requirements for renewal. Based on the recommendations of the Expert Committee, the recognition of the SJCC Research Centre was renewed for a further period of four years, from 2026–27 to 2029–30.

The Research Centre follows a stringent Plagiarism and Malpractice Policy, supported by the use of Turnitin software, to maintain academic integrity and ethical standards in research. The Centre's research activities are governed by the applicable UGC (Promotion of Academic Integrity and Prevention of Plagiarism in Higher Educational Institutions) Regulations, 2018, along with the institution's own Research Policy, Code of Ethics, and related research guidelines. These measures ensure that research undertaken at the Centre adheres to the highest standards of academic integrity, originality, transparency, and responsible research practices.

To emerge as a centre of excellence in multidisciplinary research by nurturing innovative thought leaders and researchers who advance knowledge, promote ethical and impactful research, and translate scholarly insights into meaningful, evidence-based solutions for society, industry, and governance, contributing to sustainable, inclusive, and transformative development.

To build a vibrant, collaborative, and inclusive research environment that nurtures innovative and critical thinking, promotes interdisciplinary inquiry, generates impactful and socially relevant knowledge, and empowers faculty, scholars, and students to pursue research excellence, address emerging challenges, and contribute meaningfully to society, industry, and the wider academic community.

• Establish and promote a strong ethical foundation for research by ensuring academic integrity, transparency, originality, responsible conduct, and adherence to institutional and regulatory standards in all research activities.
• Coordinate, monitor, and oversee the Ph.D. programme affiliated with Dr. Manmohan Singh Bengaluru City University, ensuring compliance with university regulations, academic requirements, and quality standards.
• Provide continuous mentorship, academic guidance, and research support to doctoral scholars throughout their research journey, from the identification of research problems and proposal development to data analysis, publication, thesis submission, and successful completion.
• Motivate and support faculty members to identify and pursue funded research opportunities from government agencies, private organisations, international bodies, and other recognised funding institutions, thereby strengthening the institution's research profile.
• Facilitate knowledge creation, dissemination, and exchange through seminars, conferences, workshops, colloquia, faculty development programmes, research training sessions, and interactions with academicians, industry experts, policymakers, and practitioners.
• Provide and continuously strengthen access to essential research resources, including academic databases, research software, digital resources, statistical tools, research infrastructure, and other facilities required to support high-quality scholarly work.
• Promote interdisciplinary and collaborative research by encouraging faculty members, scholars, students, and external researchers to work across disciplines and develop innovative approaches to contemporary academic and societal challenges.
• Encourage high-quality research publications and dissemination of research findings through reputed peer-reviewed journals, books, edited volumes, conferences, policy briefs, and other recognised academic and professional platforms.
• Create opportunities for students and early-career researchers to engage in research activities, thereby developing research aptitude, critical thinking, analytical skills, and evidence-based problem-solving capabilities.
• Strengthen linkages and collaborations with universities, research institutions, industries, government agencies, and professional organisations to promote joint research, consultancy, knowledge exchange, and socially relevant research initiatives.
• Support research that addresses emerging societal, economic, technological, environmental, and governance challenges, with an emphasis on generating evidence-based and sustainable solutions that contribute to national and global development.
• Monitor and continuously improve the quality and impact of research activities undertaken through the Research Centre by encouraging periodic evaluation, documentation, dissemination of outcomes, and adoption of good research practices.
