About the Department

The Department of Commerce is one of the oldest and most established academic units of St. Joseph's College of Commerce (SJCC), Bengaluru. It was first established at St. Joseph's College in 1949 and became an independent institution in 1972 at its Brigade Road campus. The Department offers a comprehensive portfolio of undergraduate programmes spanning B.Com, B.Com (Industry Integrated — BPM), B.Com (Industry Integrated -Logistics & Supply Chain Management) and B.Com (Fintech).

The B. Com Department of St. Joseph's College of Commerce has efficiently streamlined all its courses to reflect an interdisciplinary approach to understanding the contemporary business environment. Its aim is to construct a strong foundation in core subjects such as Accounting, Taxation, Economics, Statistics and Auditing along with a choice of Cost Accounting, Finance, Business Analytics, Marketing and Human Resources, studied in the fifth and sixth semester. The courses are challenging, yet, rewarding for students with high aspirations. Our students have been sought after by employers for their excellent knowledge, skills and attitude, giving them an edge over their peers from other institution.

Vision

To advance commerce education through an authentic pursuit of knowledge, inspired by the Jesuit vision of St. Joseph's College of Commerce—upholding human dignity, affirming the goodness of creation, and fostering harmony among people and with nature.

Mission

Aligned to the institution's Jesuit educational mission:

  • Character Formation:
To nurture value-driven individuals grounded in integrity, justice, cooperation, and compassion for others.
  • Social Responsibility:
To develop socially conscious and responsible citizens committed to justice and responsive to societal needs.
  • Academic Excellence & Holistic Learning:
Striving for academic excellence and the practice of transformational thinking to meet the constantly changing and evolving needs of the larger society.
