About the Department

The Post Graduate Department of Commerce at St. Joseph's College of Commerce was established in 2002 with the introduction of the M.Com programme, with the aim of creating an enriching and supportive academic environment for students seeking to advance in commerce and related fields. Initially offering M.Com (Finance & Taxation), the department steadily expanded its academic portfolio in step with evolving industry and academic demands. In 2007 it introduced M.Com (International Business) along with the Postgraduate Diploma programmes, and in 2017 M.Com (Financial Analysis) was launched to meet the growing need for specialised expertise in finance.

A key strength of the department lies in its highly qualified faculty, comprising doctoral scholars and experienced academicians, complemented by industry professionals and experts from professional bodies who bring practical insight into the classroom. The curriculum is continuously updated to reflect the dynamic nature of global business, ensuring both relevance and rigour. The department also takes a holistic approach to education, fostering critical thinking, a research orientation and professional readiness. Through academic excellence, industry exposure and a supportive learning ecosystem, the department equips students with the knowledge and skills to succeed in their careers and contribute meaningfully to the business world.

Learning beyond the Classroom
The department is committed to giving students comprehensive exposure to the latest developments in Commerce and Management. It regularly organises guest lectures, seminars and conferences that allow students to engage directly with industry experts and academicians and to stay current with contemporary practice. The department also emphasises experiential learning through industrial visits, educational trips and social visits, offering first-hand insight into real-world business environments and organisational operations, and building practical skills, professional awareness and social responsibility.

Vision

To actively participate in the formation of a secular and democratic society by nurturing responsible citizenship through character formation, and by inculcating integrity and a commitment to the pursuit of knowledge.

Mission

To strive for academic excellence through an innovative curriculum and innovative teaching practices, with a special focus on interdisciplinary research and social concern.
