About:

Curation of an Entrepreneurial Mindset is an extensive process that needs an environment where like-minded people come together to network, brainstorm ideas, and execute them. The Entrepreneurship Learning Initiative strives to curate such events and opportunities for young aspiring and budding entrepreneurs, providing them with direction and skills that shall help give flight to their ideas and transform the same into something rather concrete.
At ELI, we help garner skills inter alia, Ideation, Curation, Effective Management and Organization, Communication, Critical Thinking, Logical Reasoning, Confidence Development, and more. Furthermore, we intend on introducing initiatives that shall help foster peer to peer learning and shared learning.


Objectives:

The Networker’s Bingo - 22 nd July, 2024

The event kicked off with an introduction to the association, followed by the announcement of the rules of an engaging icebreaker game, human bingo. Participants were handed bingo sheets featuring 12 blocks, each listing different achievements or characteristics. The objective was to interact with others, find individuals matching the descriptions, write their names, and note one interesting thing about them. The game encouraged networking, with the first person to complete their sheet emerging as the winner.

The SJCC Entrepreneurs Showcase - August 22 nd , 2024

The event was a dynamic and interactive platform, allowing students and small businesses to connect and learn from one another on World Entrepreneurship Day. Instead of a traditional speaker, participants engaged in a structured questionnaire, designed to gather insights about their businesses and their challenges. This approach provided a valuable opportunity to better understand the needs and aspirations of the entrepreneurs involved.

Three small businesses were invited to showcase their products, creating a space for students to interact with business owners and learn more about their entrepreneurial journeys.

Never Too Small To Brand - August 23 rd , 2024

The event unfolded as an engaging and interactive session on personal branding and entrepreneurship. The speaker shared their entrepreneurial journey and discussed successful brands, providing attendees with real-world context and inspiration. The presentation covered popular brands, likely to illustrate effective branding strategies. A significant portion of the talk focused on personal branding, emphasizing its importance in today's competitive landscape. The event was designed to inspire and educate students about brand building, both for businesses and for themselves personally. It aimed to motivate attendees to pursue their dreams by addressing potential roadblocks and offering strategies to overcome them through effective personal branding.

Fountainhead is the creative backbone of the BBA department. It creates an outlet for writers, designers, and photographers, and encourages them to hone their skills. Fountainhead is responsible for:

● Writing, designing, and publishing the BBA department magazine, The BBA Herald
● Covering all significant events, fests, seminars, and other activities organised within the BBA department and drafting reports for the same.
● The “Humans of BBA” initiative, a narrative on select final year students.
● BBA Campus Chronicles, the monthly newsletter, an initiative during the academic year 2024-25 and many more activities.

It provides an opportunity where one can meet like-minded people who share the same interests as them. Fountainhead aspires to nurture artistic expression, artistic style, and technical foundations, enabling students to become trailblazers in the world of creative endeavors. At its core, Fountainhead aims to cultivate future leaders who can harness the power of creativity for innovation and positive change.

Grounds for Murder - 16th July, 2024

The icebreakers session conducted by Fountainhead called “Grounds for Murder”, began with introductions of the core team members and the new students. The session featured a murder mystery game set in a corporate environment, where the company's CEO had his coffee poisoned, and the core team members were the prime suspects. The new members interrogated the core team to uncover the identity and motive of the poisoner. The game concluded with the discovery of the killer, and participants received certificates for their efforts. The event successfully fostered communication and camaraderie among the participants, making it a fruitful session overall.

Cinematic Craft: Shooting and Editing for Impact - 6 th September, 2024

Organized and managed by Fountainhead, Cinematic Craft welcomed students from all departments. It was a comprehensive shooting and video editing workshop conducted in college, aimed at equipping students with essential skills in video production. The workshop covered key aspects of camera handling, shot composition and lighting techniques. Students also explored the basics of video editing using professional software, learning how to trim, arrange, and enhance footage as well.

Humans of BBA

Humans of BBA is a token of gratitude to the graduating batch of the BBA Department. It features interviews on the official BBA Department Instagram page, giving seniors a platform to showcase themselves. Participating in these interviews also allows association members to network with and gain knowledge from their seniors. For this reason, this Fountainhead initiative is highly anticipated!

Commixture - 4th July 2024

The event commenced with a detailed presentation on the Josephite Business Club (JBC) and its activities. The new JBC core team and directors were introduced. Yuktha Suresh, the BBA department coordinator, and former JBC members shared their experiences and fond memories. The core team then provided an overview of the club's objectives and operations, encouraging students to apply as associates for the upcoming year. Students were then divided by class for icebreaker activities, including interactive games. Some students also shared exciting experiences. These activities helped students step out of their comfort zones, share opinions, and get to know each other, offering a glimpse of future club activities and ensuring everyone had a great time.

Budget Analysis- 24th July 2024

E-Cell, Finance, and JBC, collaborated to organize an insightful event focused on the Union Budget 2024. The session featured two professionals who provided expert analysis and insights on the budget’s implications. A student moderator facilitated the conversation, ensuring an engaging and interactive discussion. The event aimed to educate commerce students on the budget’s impact on stock prices, job markets, and overall economic conditions. Additionally, the professionals discussed broader economic strategies and fiscal policies, encouraging students to critically assess and debate these topics. The event also included a Q&A session where students had the opportunity to ask their questions directly to the panel members.

Festing Season – 29 th & 30 th of August, 2024

Festing Season (FS) is a feedback-driven event that promotes experiential learning, designed to instill the practice and aptitude for festing in its participants. This year’s fest was the most prominent yet, with over 165 participants across both days. Organized and managed by the Josephite’s Business Club (JBC), the event welcomed students from all departments. Participants faced a series of demanding stages, showcasing their full potential to external judges—our esteemed alumni—and experienced B-Team members. The rounds tested their spontaneous thinking, ability to tackle challenging questions, and resilience under pressure, with feedback sessions providing invaluable insights for their future in the corporate and business world.

About:

Leaders aren’t born, they are made.”
The Leadership Development Cell [LDC] is an association under the BBA department of St. Joseph’s College of Commerce which aims at building future-ready leaders.
The association works with the goal of overall development of its members, which includes presentation skills, interpersonal skills, leadership and innovative thinking. It offers various resources to support leadership development, such as mentorship and networking programmes, along with curating various events. It also publishes a monthly issue of the student leadership magazine ‘Zinera’ featuring articles on the business world and prominent personalities.

Objectives:

• To provide its members with opportunities to socialise, network, and build relationships with their peers.
• To focus on skill development, majorly, interpersonal skills, presentation skills, innovative thinking and more.

Exordium (Ice-Breaker Event), organized by the Leadership Development Cell (LDC), was a successful event aimed at building camaraderie and teamwork among participants. Participants were paired into teams of two and given a famous personality and a product to endorse creatively on the spot. The cleverness and humor they showed were impressive, setting a positive tone for future interactions.

About:

An initiative of the Department of Business Administration, Project smiles is an esteemed association dedicated towards the upliftment of children coming from underprivileged backgrounds. As the name suggests, Project Smiles aims to bring a smile on the face of all the children they happen to interact with, irrespective of their social status. The association also helps students develop social concern which would help them become holistic individuals. In addition to their impactful social endeavors, Project Smiles also organizes a plethora  of activities that foster creativity and well-being. These include engaging rock painting sessions and invigorating yoga sessions, which promote the harmonious union of mind and spirit, among other activities.

Smiles and Mingles, the ice-breaker event organized by Project Smiles, aimed at amplifying the collegiality and connections among participants. A couple of fun activities were lined up as a means of welcoming the participants cordially that encouraged the associate members to get to know about each other. The event promoted networking, team building and communication creating a relaxed atmosphere. Moreover, it was an event filled with laughter, amusement, building teamwork and friendships!

Bright Minds: “Empowering Young Minds”- 21-08-2024

The ‘Bright Minds’ event organized by Project Smiles, was a great success. The event took place in a government school. Numbers, alphabets, and basic math tables were taught to the students by the association members, creating an interactive and enjoyable learning experience. The joy and innocence of the children were truly heartwarming, bringing smiles to the faces of every team member involved. The experience was both fulfilling and uplifting, as the members witnessed firsthand the positive impact of their efforts on the children’s lives.

Tech Prodigy: Empowering Kids with Computer Basics - September 3 rd , 2024

In this engaging activity, the association members were responsible for teaching basic computer applications to the students of Government Urdu Primary School. This included instructions on Paint and the fundamentals of Microsoft Office, such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Together We Can Help – Ration Collection Drive- 13th December, 2024

The "Together We Can Help" ration collection drive aimed to support slum dwellers and those facing economic challenges during the festive season. The collection and distribution drive was successful, as evidenced by the smiles it brought to the residents of Murphy Town and their children. It instilled a sense of hope in struggling families and raised awareness among participants about the challenges faced by the less privileged.

The core team members from Project Smiles and core teams of the BBA Department were guided by Ms. Jeratina, who was well acquainted with the local residents. Her enthusiasm and vibrant personality helped both the participants and residents feel at ease.

Food was rationed and distributed to each family living in the area. Each ration included essential items such as pulses, grains, and oil. Clothes and toys donated by the students of St. Joseph's College of Commerce (Autonomous) were sorted and handed over to Ms. Jeratina, who distributed them to the residents of a nearby hostel. Additionally, to spread joy and sweetness during the Christmas season, participants donated chocolates to be given to the children.

The donation drive concluded on a high note, filled with enthusiasm. The joy of supporting our fellow brothers and sisters, along with their grateful smiles, left the participants feeling rejuvenated. Through this activity, not only did the department association members experience the true essence of Christmas, but they also gained insight into the importance of being grateful for all the blessings they have received.

The Quest Club is the research club of the BBA Department.  The Quest club is a dedicated association established with the aim of fostering a passion for research among students, providing a platform for intellectual exploration and collaborative learning. The ice-breaker odyssey commenced with a warm and inclusive welcome extended to all newly on boarded members of Quest club. The coordinators, responsible for organizing the event, began by providing a succinct yet comprehensive introduction to the club. They elucidated the club's primary objectives, its operations, and its overarching commitment to creating a thriving Research culture in college. This initial session served as a valuable orientation for both new members and those already associated with the club, offering a deeper understanding of the Quest club's role and purpose within the college community.
To infuse a sense of camaraderie and excitement among participants, a thrilling treasure hunt was orchestrated. In the end, the top three teams, who emerged as winners were rewarded for their outstanding performance.

The Research Roadmap: An Introduction Into Research- 8th August, 2024

Dr. Poornima Vijayakumar conducted an insightful session on the research process, aimed at guiding participants through the structured approach to producing sound research. The session began with an activity where participants were encouraged to close their eyes and reflect on their thoughts regarding research. Key ideas that emerged included the notion of research as a process of seeking solutions, discovering new facts, and moving from the unknown to the known.

She highlighted the quote, "Research is to see what everybody else has seen and to think what nobody else has thought," underlining the innovative and exploratory nature of research.

Dr. Emil Joseph led an insightful session at the "Renaissance of Research" event, presented by the Quest Club. He emphasized aligning research objectives with title keywords and following APA 7th edition for citations. He also guided attendees on conducting literature reviews using platforms like Google Scholar and SSRN, while paraphrasing content with proper citations. Key topics included crafting a concise abstract, introducing the study, and focusing on current trends.
The event concluded with a dynamic Q&A session, providing further clarity on research methodologies.

Digital Vault- Unveiling E-Resources - 13th September, 2024

During the research session, several resources and platforms were discussed for academic and research purposes. These included databases like EBSCO, J-Gate, N-List, and subscription-based services from 'Oxford University Press' and 'Cambridge University Press', accessible only through the college network. Additional resources such as DELNET and Knimbus (sjcc.knimbus) were mentioned, along with open-source platforms like 'Google Scholar' and 'Shodhganga'. Subscribed e-resources, like the National Digital Library of India, and the Web of Science were also highlighted as valuable tools for accessing research material. The session aimed to equip participants with the knowledge to find and utilize reliable academic resources effectively. The emphasis was on using advanced search techniques and understanding the features of each platform to access high-quality research material.

The Quest for Knowledge: A Research Workshop- 20th December, 2024

The session covered several key aspects of the research process. It emphasized the importance of choosing a relevant title, which sets the tone for the study. Participants were instructed on using resources like Sci-Hub and Google Scholar to access recent and relevant studies. The session explained the differences between clinical research, focused on medical treatments, and general research, covering a broader range of topics. Additionally, the distinction between primary data, collected firsthand, and secondary data, gathered from existing sources, was clarified. It also highlighted the importance of identifying research gaps to contribute new knowledge and setting clear, achievable research objectives.

By equipping participants with these skills, the session helped foster a deeper appreciation for rigorous research and inspired a commitment to academic excellence. This comprehensive approach ensures that participants are well-prepared to undertake their research projects with confidence and precision.
