Workshops

  • National level Experiential Training Program
    SJCC-Research Centre provides guidance to students and faculty members for the enhancing their research skills. Centre organized a National level experiential workshop on ‘Research Methodology’ from 9th to 15th December, 2020. Workshop witnessed participants from 7 states of the country. Ten resource persons from the reputed institutes IIPM Rajasthan, GBU Delhi, MDI Gurgaon, NIT Trichy, St. Joseph’s College Trichy delivered their expertise. Dr. Deepika Joshi and Dr. Sridhar LS was the convener of the program.

  • Awareness Programme on PDS-ShodhShuddhi:
    In its endeavor to maintain ethics in research, the Research Centre organized a Webinar titled "Awareness Programme on PDS-ShodhShuddhi" for the faculty members on July 23, 2020. The programme is resourced by INFLIBNET, a unit of MHRD. The objective of the webinar was to enhance the understanding of research integrity among faculty members and train them on the use of Web based plagiarism detection software. The Research Centre registered all SJCC faculty members with INFLIBNET Centre in advance.

  • Training program on EBSCO database:
    Webinar on Training and demonstration of EBSCO database was organized by SJCC Research Centre in association with Library and Information Centre of SJCC on September 12, 2020. Mr. Sreenivas, Training manager from EBSCO was the resource person. The objective of the program is to familiarize the scholars with various databases of EBSCO and an easy ways to explore them for the purpose of research.

  • Experiential training program on Research methodology:
    Research Centre in collaboration with PG Department has organized a six days experiential training program for M. Com final year’s students from August 24 -25, 2020. The objective of the program is to enhance the research related skills of PG students and prepare them to undertake the dissertation work with knowledge and confidence. Seven session on various topics like research design, questionnaire construction, hypothesis testing, ethics in research, plagiarism policy of SJCC and UGC and writing the dissertation thesis and research articles were covered during the program. Five faculty members from SJCC shared their expertise on questionnaire design, sampling, data analysis technique etc with the students.

  • Workshop on Basic of Research Methodology for UG students
    Two Days workshop from 8th – 9th Oct, 2020 was organized for the B. Com and BBA department students. Students of quest club and mainframe research forum participated in the workshop. They were trained on the basics of research, problem identification, hypothesis construction, questionnaire development, data collection and overview of various data analysis techniques.

  • International Conference on ‘World Economic Resilience: Gearing for a Better Future’
    The international conference titled ‘World Economic Resilience: Gearing for a Better Future’ was organized on 9th & 10th April, 2021 was organized by the B. Com Department. The conference was organized in collaboration with MAHSA University Malaysia and College of Mount Saint Vincent New York. The keynote address was delivered by Mr. Prasad Swaminathan who is a Group Senior Vice President and Global Head of Transformation and Organization for Adecco Workforce Solutions, Zürich, Switzerland.

  • Business Acumen for The New Normal: Recover, Respond, Thrive
    The international conference titled ‘Business Acumen for The New Normal: Recover, Respond, Thrive’ was held on 4th February 2021 by the BBA Department. Dr. Ganesh LS, Retd. Professor, IIT Madras, India, Dr. Umair Zahid, Falmouth University, UK, Dr. Deepa Dani, Ness Wadia College of Commerce, India, Mr. Zawahir Siddique, Academic Head at Westford were the resource persons for the event.

  • Reconfiguring Business Practices - A Call for Action in Building Resilience in Post Covid Era
    A seminar titled Reconfiguring Business Practices - A Call for Action in Building Resilience in Post Covid Era was conducted on March 24, 2021 by the Post Graduate Department. Mr. Abdul Majeed, Partner, Assurance, Price Waterhouse, Bengaluru, Karnataka, India was the Keynote Speaker for session.


Ph.D Synopsis Presentation

In its mandate of PhD thesis submission to Bangalore University, the Research Centre organizes a review presentation of the research work done by PhD scholar. The committee was constituted by Director, Research Centre in consultation of PhD guides. Committee appreciated the work of scholars and given necessary suggestions.
  • On July 15, 2020 Mr. Shree Murthy presented his research work ‘A study on Credit Models of Public Sector Banks in Karnataka ‘

  • In August 13, 2020, Mr. Girish presented his research work ‘A study on the Market Efficiency of Stock Markets and Forex Markets in India’

  • On September 14, 2020, Ms. Fozia Mehtab comprehensively presented her research work “Behavioral Approach to Investment Decision: A Comparative Study Between Male and Female Investors in India”

  • International Seminar on “Unfolding Contemporary Marketing: A Roadmap for Future Innovation”
    The Department of Commerce organized a one-day International Conference titled “Unfolding Contemporary Marketing: A Roadmap for Future Innovation” on 10th December, 2019. The InternationalConference took place in association with Albers School of Business and Economics – Seattle Universityand Miles Education. The International Conference was organized with a view to bring forward theevolution of the marketing domain since its inception through the discussions, research and insights ofexperts and research scholars. The Conference brought forward the disruptive innovative practices inmodern markets and helped to identify marketing areas where future innovation and technologicaladvancement could develop. Ms. Veenu Joy was the convener.

  • National Seminar on “Paradigm Shift in Business Management AND Economics”
    The BBA Department organized a one-day national seminar on “Paradigm Shift in Business Managementand Economics” on 21st August, 2019. The objective of the seminar was to understand the views aboutshift in businesses, management and economics. Dr. Deepika Joshi was the convener.

  • National Seminar on “Next Generation tools: Future Roadmap for Business and Industry”
    The PG department oragzanized a one day national seminar on “Next Generation tools: Future Roadmapfor Business and Industry” on March 11, 2020. The objective of the seminar was to understandtechnological revolution and its impact upon society, business and nation. Dr. Deepika Joshi was theconvener.

  • Experiential Training Workshop on Dissertation Writing for PG students
    The final year M. Com students attended a six-day training program on dissertation writing from 15th to20th July, 2019. The training program was organized to equip the students with relevant skills tosmoothly work on their dissertation.

Research Workshop

  • The UGC sponsored a Seven-day National Level Workshop on Research Methodology for thewomen scholars was organized from 17th -23rd September, 2018. The objective is to empowerwomen scholars for research projects and PhD work. The workshop was funded by UGC. Dr. D.RajaJeba Singh and Dr. Deepika Joshi were the conveners of the workshop.

  • A National Level Experiential Workshop on Research Methodology was organized from Dec 6th-12th,2018. It is an annual event of SJCC Research Centre aimed to develop research capabilities amongresearchers and academicians.

  • Both workshops were seven day long. The sessions were delivered by resource person from premierinstitutes in the country like IMT Ghaziabad, NIT Trichy, IIPM Bangalore and The Gandhigram RuralInstitute, Didigul and many more. Both the workshops witnessed participation from 7 different states ofthe country.

  • UGC Sponsored National Level IQAC Conference
    IQAC organized a National Level Conference on “Quality Initiatives in Teaching, Learning andEvaluation Processes in Higher Educational Institutions” on 24th August 2018. The conference received42 papers. The book of abstracts was released in the inaugural session of the conference.

  • National Seminar on 4th Industrial Revolution
    The 18th & 19th of February, 2019 saw a national seminar, organized. The topic ‘4th IndustrialRevolution’ focused on the changing trends in the different sectors of the industry like HR, Banking andFinance. This workshop covered a wide range of topics from the world of industry 4.0 to evolution ofmarketing and sales in SMAC era.

  • The FDP on ‘Scientific Research Paper Writing for Indexed Journal’ centering on the need ofliterature review in research writings was conducted by the Research Centre on 23 September, 2017.

  • The workshop on ‘Effective Engagement in Consulting’ focused on the need of consultancy incurrent academic environment was conducted on 25th & 26th September 2017.

  • A National Level Experiential Workshop on Research Methodology was conducted from 6 to 12December, 2017.

  • National Seminar on 'Banking on the Future: Vision 2020'
    The post-graduate department organized a one-day national-level seminar on the 22nd of September,2017. Two special editions of journals were released in collaboration with the Primax InternationalJournal of Commerce and Management Research (PIJCMR) and Emperor International Journal ofFinance and Management, UGC Listed Journal 45308.

  • Day National Seminar on Democracy, Education and Nationalist Discourses- Towards aCritical Engagement”
    The One was organized by Department of English in collaboration with Department of Kannada on 4thDecember 2017. The seminar witnessed nearly 70 participants from different institutes of India forEnglish as well as Kannada paper presentations.

  • National Conference: Fintech Ecosystems – Transformation and Market Dynamics
    A national conference to discuss the contemporary changes in the financial industry a national conferencewas organized on Feb 2-3, 2018. Conference witnessed paper presentations and compilation in form of acompendium.

  • National seminar - Agamya
    On the 8th of February, 2018, the Post Graduate Department organized Agamya, a one-day national-levelseminar. The objective of the seminar was to provide opportunities to students in the post-graduatedepartment pursuing their master’s to present their case studies and research projects in relation to thetheme “Kaledioscope – Evolution, Transition and Innovation of Business Practices”.

  • An Experiential Training Program on Dissertation Writing was conducted for III Semester PGstudents from 11th to 15th July, 2016.

  • Two Day National Experiential Workshop on use of sample design and techniques in social scienceresearch: Practical Application for Research Scholars on 22nd & 23rd July 2016. Participants fromBangalore University participated and made it a successful event.

  • A two-day National Level Experiential workshop on “Parametric and Non-Parametric Tools for DataAnalysis” was conducted on 26th and 27th September, 2016

  • Two Half Day Workshops were organized for the first-year post-graduate students for instillingconfidence in presenting their research papers in Conferences/Seminars organized by other academicinstitutions. Dr. H. Nagaraj, HoD, Commerce, St. Joseph’s Evening College, enlightened the studentson presentation skills on 14th and 15th November, 2016.

  • A one-day National Faculty Development Program (FDP) on “Funding Agencies Research Grant andProposal Writing” was conducted for the Faculty Member/ Research Scholars on 20th December,2016.

  • High Impact Ph. D Course Work Collaboration with Bangalore University
    SJCC RC conducted a Ten Day Ph. D Course Work orientation at St. Joseph’s in Collaboration with theDepartment of Commerce, Bangalore University, for the Scholars of October – November, 2016admissions. The orientations at St. Joseph’s were greatly appreciated by all the participants. Theprogramme consisted of carefully selected topics and was handled by the best available resource persons.The programme instilled reassurance and high motivation in the participants to pursue their doctoralprogramme.

  • Ph. D Research Scholars Interface Meeting
    SJCC RC facilitates as an open informal platform for all Ph. D research scholars who are associated withSt. Joseph’s to come together and discuss various common issues encountered by them during the course of their study, in the presence of the available research Supervisors, doctoral degree holders and otherswho are interested in research. During the academic year 2016- 17, Ph. D Research Scholars InterfaceMeeting was held four times.

  • International Seminar on India – An Incredible Business and Investment Destination” Myth orReality
    An international seminar was organized by BBA Department in August 2016 to put-forward the realitiesof investment decisions. Paper presented were compiled into a compendium with ISBN: 978-81-924180-6-3.

  • National seminar on “International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)/ Indian AccountingStandards (IND AS)
    PG department of SJCC organized a seminar to discuss IFRS in August 2016. The selected papers werecompiled in an ISBN 978-81-924180- 8- 7 book.

  • International Seminar on “Tourism and Universal Accessibility-Challenges and Opportunities”
    September 2016 witnessed an international seminar from B. Com (Tourism and Travel) department. Thepresented papers were compiled into an ISBN 978-81-924180-7-0 compendium.

Research Workshop

  • The Research Department of St. Joseph’s College of Commerce organized a workshop on 18thAugust, 2015 for the students of the Travel and Tourism Department. The workshop focused on thebasics of researching and on the Research process of collecting, tabulating, analyzing, validating andpresentation of information on various segments of Research work.

  • A two day experiential workshop on ‘self-empowerment for research scholars through digital tools’was organized from March 22-23, 2016. It was in collaboration with VIT University Chennaicampus.

  • A state-level seminar titled Social Entrepreneurship in India- Panache for Social Change and Advancement
    One day seminar was held on 25 August, 2015. Participants from various states participated and gainedfeedback on their research.

  • International Conference on the Paradigm of Triple Bottom Line (TBL) – Risk, Ethics,Governance and Sustainability”
    Two days seminar from 31st August to 1st Sep, 2015 was organized in collaboration with ACCA UK.The impact of sustainability and governance on TBL was discussed among the large group of researchers.

  • National Seminar on Goods and Service Tax (GST)
    One day seminar on 3rd September, 2015 was organized by PG department in Collaboration with ICAI &UGC. The objective was to discuss this newly launched tax system among the group of experts.Participants were benefited with the expert’s knowledge.

  • International Conference on Tourism Sector in India: Development, Sustainability andChallenges
    B. Com (TT) department organized a one day international conference on tourism sector in India. Theaudience presented their ideas upon the concept of sustainable tourism and its challenges in India. It wasorganized on 4th September, 2015. It was in collaboration with FKCCI

  • UGC Sponsored National Seminar on StrengtheningTransparency in Higher EducationalInstitutions’- A Quality Assurance Measure
    On 29th January 2016 a UGC sponsored national seminar was organized on transparency in highereducation institutions. The objective was to discuss the measures taken by various academic institutions.The quality papers were compiled in form of a compendium.

  • State Level Conference on Digital Library Services for Academic Excellence: Opportunities andChallenges
    On March 3, 2016 a state level conference was organized to discuss the significance of digital library forenhancing the quality of publication. The conference witnessed large number of participants from librarysciences and IT domain.
