About the programme
Creative pedagogy is a vital component of any successful learning experience. The Department of English at SJCC embraces a wide range of pedagogical approaches to suit the inherent diversity of the student community. The English teaching fraternity at SJCC comes from diverse socio-cultural backgrounds, and are interested and invested in varied literary and cultural disciplines. The Department follows an interdisciplinary teaching approach encompassing both theoretical and practical dimensions. Along with the traditional lecture-demonstration method, other teaching-learning strategies such as small group interaction, debate, and peer learning will be used. These initiatives broaden the classroom into a dialectical space for engaging with ideas and arriving at insight. The Department also focuses on activities like field trips, fieldwork, and language lab. This often encourages students to explore and enhance their writing skills through blogging and journaling. In addition to this, the department organises workshops, seminars and symposiums on various contemporary topics. On the whole, the pedagogic effort is to equip students with the subtleties of argumentation and an ability for critical thinking.
