About the Programme
The B.A. (English, Psychology & Communicative English) Programme is a triple
specialization programme that foregrounds the study of literature, psychology, and
communication in both global and Indian contexts. It focuses on providing a
foundational knowledge of the three disciplines and developing critical and creative
skills required for a career in the field of literary studies, human behaviour, media &
entertainment, creative arts, professional communication, journalism, and social and
corporate sectors.
English courses, through a close study of texts and contexts, familiarizes students
with literary histories of the world and equips them with literary sensibilities and skills
of interpretation. It will also focus on researching literary and cultural histories,
society and human experience, and emerging genres of literature.
Psychology courses are designed to familiarise students with the various
applications of Psychology in different spheres including clinical, educational, and
industrial settings. In addition, it provides a platform to use these skills to enhance
self-awareness, empathy, and social responsibility.
Communicative English courses focus on understanding the history and evolution of
English language, concepts in linguistics, communication theory, and writing and
speaking skills for specific contexts. Emphasis will be laid on developing ideas for
creative multimedia projects.
The BA programme intends to connect liberal arts, humanities, and social sciences
through a multidimensional curriculum and an interdisciplinary approach.

Programme Shift and Class Timings:
Shift II: 11.00 am onwards.
It is essential for all candidates seeking admission to the 1 st year of the degree programme to have completed 12 years of schooling through an examination conducted by a Board/University. Students must have passed exams at +2 level (ISC/CBSE/ other state boards/International Board/Karnataka PU Board) in any stream from any recognized boards from India or abroad.
Admission to the BA (English, Psychology & Communicative English)
programme is based on the entrance exam.
Entrance Examination (Round 1 & Round 2)
The entrance examination for the BA (English, Psychology & Communicative
English) Programme will take place in on-campus and online mode.
Non-Karnataka and NRI candidates can opt online Entrance exam and Round
2 interview by paying an additional fee of Rs. 1000.
The exam will consist of two rounds:
Round 1: SJCC Aptitude Test – English (SAT -Eng)
Round 2: Subject Knowledge Interview

Round 1: SJCC Aptitude Test – English (SAT-Eng)
The test will consist of four sections:
Section A: English Language Ability (15 marks)
Section B: Critical Thinking Skills (15 marks)
Section C: Comprehension Passage (15 marks)
Section D: Reflective Essay (15 marks)
Total marks: 60
Time allotted: 60 mins
Important guidelines:
• Section A will test the English language ability of the candidates through proofreading or rewriting tasks.
• Candidates are required submit a written response to the questions in Sections B, C, and D.
• Candidates must not exceed the specified word limit.
• Any instance of plagiarism or cheating will result in immediate disqualification from the examination.
Provisionally selected candidates for Round 2 will be intimated through applicant login/E-mail.
Round 2: Subject Knowledge Assessment
Candidates shortlisted from Round 1 will proceed to Round 2, which will assess their general familiarity with the disciplinary knowledge, their ability to understand concepts, and their motivation and interest in pursuing the BA programme.
Candidates are expected to attend the subject knowledge round wearing formal attire and bring their E-admit card. Those provisionally selected for the personal interview will be notified through their applicant login or email.
Personal Interview and Document Verification.
Candidates qualified in Round 2 will be notified for an online personal interview and document verification. The candidates are expected to attend the interview in formal attire, along with their parents.
Documents required for the interview (Original and Photocopy) of:
1. Printout of the filled-in online application form
2. Valid ID (Aadhar, Passport etc.)
3. Class X marks card
4. Class XI marks card
5. Class XII marks card (if available)
6. Caste certificate (if applicable)
7. Parish priest letter (if Roman Catholic)
8. E- Admit card.

Indian nationals pursuing an international curriculum in India will pay the fee
applicable for the NRI status during the first year.
Details regarding the payment of fees by the candidate will be intimated in the
Provisional Admission letter.

Note: Phase 2 admissions will be soon after board exams.
• The e-admit card is required to be kept with the candidate throughout the
admission process.
• All students must carry their updated Aadhar card along with their admit card for each round of the admission process.
• Candidates should download their Admit Card from their Applicant portal
(download admit card) on the dates mentioned.
• Candidates will only be allowed for Round 2, if they meet the minimum eligibility conditions.
• In case the candidate has applied for TWO or more programmes, date/time
will be notified in advance. Candidates are therefore, requested to check the
website for the details.
• The responsibility of satisfying the eligibility criteria for the Entrance exam lies
with the candidate. Issue of the E-Admit card for the selection process
does not imply that the eligibility criteria are satisfied.

before the date of entrance exam.
IMPORTANT NOTICE:
• The college does not accept capitation/donations for admissions. In case such
a demand is made by anyone, it is requested to bring it to the notice, in writing
to the Vice President, Bangalore Jesuit Educational Society, Jesuit Nivas,
35, Museum Road, Bengaluru– 560 025.
• The decision of the Admissions Committee at St. Joseph’s College of
Commerce will be final and binding in all matters concerning admissions.
